Butternut’s Coffee Break

We tried it.

For three days, Butternut got coffee. Decaf. About two ounces each day.

Butternut likes his coffee black and hot. Surprisingly hot. He carefully picked up his mug with “both hands,” as he liked to point out. Then, he took big, noisy slurps and gulps, and happily declared, “coffee me, coffee me!”

He seemed fine at home. I enjoyed several mornings of not needing to worry whether he was climbing the stool to get to the coffee beans or digging into the compost bin in the kitchen to eat coffee grounds (big yuck!) or grabbing my mug when I left it unattended.

Sadly, his daycare workers reported that he was aggressive. He took 30-minute naps in place of his usual 2-hour naps. We decided no more coffee, man.

I wonder if one of the weirdo coffee substitutes would work. Like the soy coffee or something?

You are like, the coolest parents ever! Although I am glad to here you cut him off when it got ugly–I think he’ll live until he is a teenager and procure his own cup of sweet addiction.

dawn – I think soy coffee (I thought you were kidding, but I googled it) might be the way to go, especially since it looks so much like the real thing and there’s a “keep out of reach of children” warning on Rostaroma.

Fawn – I was afraid of being the coolest parents ever, aka pushovers. But I think that’s not what you mean. (Please, please say that’s not what you mean. Please?)

No, that is not what I meant. I think those are sometimes overlapping, but not always the same thing. Really, I was just being silly. ;>

Also, since you have no email comment notification (one perk of LJ), I might not always remember to check your comments, so please do bug me if you have an important question.
